What is the difference between LAC and Hot Stove? How can I get my children signed up to play? How much does it cost to play? What does my entry fee pay for? How will my child be placed on a team?
What is the difference between LAC and Hot Stove? The LAC is a recognized booster club for the Labrae School system and voting member of the Labrae Athletic council. We have donated money to all sports programs for the Labrae system and even to the band. We also award academic scholarships to Labrae students every year. The baseball/softball differences are we usually play closer to home and are affiliated with a different league at different age levels. Our 5-8 year olds (boys & girls) play most games at our complex and do travel some to Newton Falls and play under agreed upon rules between the two organizations. Our 9-12 boys' team play Little League rules and the farthest we travel is Lakeview. Our 9-16 girls play Trumbull county league-Ohio Girls Softball Organization. The Vikings hot stove does not have any girls teams after 8 years old and they play in our organization. The girls teams from 9-16 travel according to the amount of teams in each age division throughout Trumbull County . Back to TopHow can I get my children signed up to play? There are two ways to sign up your children. You can fill out a Registration Form and bring it to one of the dates on the form with a copy of a birth certificate. Or you may want to try our new online registration this year. We will activate the online registration for a one month period.
Back to TopSign up as soon as possible. Managers are assigned to age groups according to selection criteria.
Note: Returning managers must have abided by LAC guidelines and returned all equipment. Back to TopHow much does it cost to play?
Back to TopSign up for fundraisers & work parties, cut grass & weeds, put up fence, work concession stand, empty trash, volunteer to umpire.
Back to TopOur insurance for each player is a major medical coverage plan that is a secondary plan if you have coverage elsewhere and is full coverage if the child has no other coverage for any injuries that may occur during practice or a game.
Back to TopWhat does my entry fee pay for? It pays for the insurance on each player, their uniform, umpires, equipment, baseballs, softballs, etc. and field maintenance items.
Back to TopWhy do we have to do fundraisers? Our signup fees generate around $10,000 plus the $4,000 we get from sponsor fees. It costs the club around $35,000/yr to run our complex for baseball & softball. The fundraisers make up the difference we need to operate.
Back to TopThe ages are 5-6, 6-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 & 15-18. The 5-6 age group is coed with boys & girls mixed. It's purely an instructional league where coaches stay on the field with the players and the players hit the ball off a tee. The 6-8 group has an adult that pitches to them. The other ages use the players to pitch to each other. The older age divisions (6-18) have a separate division for boys and girls.
Back to TopThe LAC provides shirts and hats for each player that they may keep. The player can buy pants from the LAC for $5.00 to keep or wear their own pants or shorts. The player must provide their own glove, helmet and spikes or shoes. Bats, balls, bases & catchers equipment are supplied for each team, but each player may bring his own bat & catchers equipment if they wish.
Back to TopDuring the week games normal start times are 6:00 or 6:15 pm. Saturday games can be anytime with the latest starting at 6:00 pm. There may be an occasion for a rain out game to be played on a Sunday and the coaches will set those times to suit their own team. Games normally last around 2 hours.
Back to TopHow will my child be placed on a team? Once the signups are complete and the coaches are chosen, each coach is given a list of eligible players to select from. There are specific draft rules and guidelines that the coaches must follow with the main directive that one team cannot have more older players of a certain age group (within one player) of the other teams in that same category. If someone has special needs or requests to be placed on a certain team roster they must make that known before the draft. The baseball commissioner will try to honor those requests as long as it does not upset the balance rule. All brothers or sisters will be placed with their siblings unless requested otherwise by the parents.
